Supporting Barnet to walk in God's footsteps
Supporting Barnet to walk in God's footsteps
We believe in one God, perfect in love and relationship: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. From eternity, God exists not in isolation but in communion — three Persons united in mutual giving and receiving. In this divine relationship, we see the source and meaning of all being. We were created not to be alone, but to live in relationship: with God, with one another, and with creation.
We believe that human beings were made in the image of this relational God — to walk with God in freedom and joy. But we also recognise that the world is not as it should be. We live with the reality of brokenness: in ourselves, in our relationships, in our societies. Though created for communion, we have turned from the love that gives us life.

Yet God has not abandoned us. In Jesus Christ, the eternal Son took on our humanity — every part of it — so that no corner of human life would lie beyond the reach of grace. He lived among us, knew suffering, loneliness, injustice, and death. In his life we see the shape of God’s love: not distant or abstract, but near, embodied, enduring.
We believe that on the cross Jesus offered his life in our place — not as a substitute to shield us from God, but as one of us, offering back the love and trust we struggle to give. In his death, our sin was met with mercy, and in his resurrection, creation was made new. He rose not for himself alone, but as the firstborn of a new humanity, that we might rise with him.
We believe that the life of the Church flows from this mystery. At SJB, we gather in worship to enter more deeply into that life — especially in the Eucharist, where we receive Jesus Christ himself, truly and materially present to us in bread and wine. We are nourished by the sacraments, shaped by prayer, and formed as a people in communion.

The Church is not only what we believe but how we live. In joy and in sorrow, in beauty and in struggle, we follow Jesus together. And we believe this life — shared in community, centred on worship, grounded in love — is good. If you are seeking, curious, or longing to begin again, we hope you will come and see.
