SJB Barnet Church

Supporting Barnet to walk in God's footsteps

St John’s the Baptist has a rich musical history, dating over 250 years. There is evidence that our choral foundation was established 150 years ago, which included prestigious organists such as Sir Sydney Nicholson, founder of the Royal School of Church Music.

Today, the church is a lively place of wonderful music. Liturgical music features a congregational Eucharist on Sunday morning, as well as a traditional Book of Common Prayer (1662) Choral Evensong, with full choir settings on Sunday evenings in term time.

The church also hosts many large-scale concerts, given by the resident musicians and visiting musicians.

The music department emphasises the importance of musical education, with an exceptional chorister programme for children aged 7-13. There is also a scholarship programme for young adults in education, both choral and organ students, with developing relationships with Queen Elizabeth’s Boys' School and Queen Elizabeth’s Girls’ School, Barnet.
